Christian Aid

Under normal circumstances we would be raising money for Christian Aid at this time of year and we still plan to raise money with a quiz and meal – however this will take place in the Autumn (first Week of October) and may yet be in virtual form. If you still wish to make a contribution now, I’m happy to help you with this - if you contact me. (tel 01216243717 or 079765314350)

In Lieu of Summer Fair

What could you offer which might be of value to someone else? - maybe 2 hours gardening, or ironing, surplus garden plants, a selection of preserves, a one-pot meal for 2 (or more) or a special cake. So far on the list we have 2 hours gardening, a carrot cake and a lemon drizzle cake. (It’s fine to duplicate.)

Think about what you might add to our sale list and let Mary know ( e-mail mmbowenuk@yahoo.com)

You have 2 weeks to make your offer. Offers close June 12th, after which the list will be circulated in the Hazelwell Summer Sale brochure.

Folk will then be invited to bid for any item they wish to purchase the item will go to the highest bidder. – All proceeds to church funds in lieu of what we might have raised at the summer fair.

If you prefer simply to make a donation Peter is happy to receive cheques.

Words from Nick Jones

(Who is leading this week’s Zoom service)

This Sunday is Pentecost and we celebrate the pouring of the Holy Spirit upon the first followers of Jesus. In the power and strength of the Holy Spirit, they went on to share the good news of Jesus Christ and live their lives inspired by God’s presence. We also give thanks for the gift of the Holy Spirit that continues to inspire and empower us as we live as followers of Jesus Christ not by our own strength, but through God living within us and amongst us.

One of the words for the Spirit of God in the Bible is the Hebrew word “ruach” which also translates as wind. I recall when I was living in Essex I saw a magnificent sailing boat effortlessly gliding at high speeds as it’s mast caught the wind. This was in contrast to seeing those going out to their boats to collect cockles in small boats with a large stick being used to propel their vessel towards the cockle boats. There in front of my eyes was a stark contrast between the sweat and toil required for a few metres, and the remarkable gliding when catching the wind in the mast. It spoke very powerfully to me about how when the wind of the Holy Spirit is upon us, God is able to do in us and for us more than we can begin to imagine or comprehend.

May the wind of God’s Holy Spirit fall afresh on us all this Pentecost and ever more,

Nick
