I particularly thank you for …………… [insert what you're thankful for] and ask that you would help me to use it wisely and responsibly for your kingdom. We pray particularly this week for Andy Harris, thanking you for calling him to know and to serve you; and we ask that as he's ordained as a deacon/servant this Saturday that he might know the re-filling of your Spirit, empowering him to love and serve you more fully. Reflection on Christian Unity ( following Val’s sermon last Sunday)

"That they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you."
John 17:21 (ESV)

Christian unity is not merely an ideal—it is a divine calling rooted in the prayer of Jesus Christ Himself. In His final hours, Christ prayed not for uniformity, but for oneness—a deep, spiritual communion that mirrors the unity between Him and the Father. This unity is a witness to the world of God's love and truth.

Unity is not about erasing differences in worship styles, theological interpretations, or traditions. Rather, it is about finding common ground in Christ, recognising that every Christian who confesses Jesus as Lord is part of the same body.

Throughout history, the Church has experienced schisms, doctrinal disputes, and divisions. Pride, politics, cultural differences, and a lack of forgiveness often stand in the way of reconciliation. However, these challenges do not nullify Christ’s call for unity. They remind us of the need for humility, dialogue, and a spirit of repentance.

Unity does not mean compromising the truth. But it does mean engaging others in love, listening more than we speak, and remembering that unity is not man-made—it is Spirit-given and must be Spirit-led.

Closing Prayer

Lord Jesus, You prayed that we may be one, just as You are one with the Father. Forgive us for the divisions we have caused or sustained. Fill our hearts with humility, patience, and love. Help us to seek unity without losing truth, and truth without losing love. May the world know You through our witness as one body. Amen.
