A Prayer from Matt (for you to use as your personal prayer during the coming week)
Lord God, overseer and shepherd of your church, in this week with much happening at Hazelwell Church, we pray firstly for our JCC as they meet on Wednesday that you would guide them in their discussions and help them to make good decisions - for the benefit of your church and to your glory. We ask too that you would help us to welcome all those who will be coming to our guest service on Sunday and ask that they respond gladly to the message of Jesus. And we pray also for our newly starting youth group on Sunday after the service, asking that the young people would bond well, and that it'd be a place where they encounter Jesus and grow to know him more fully. Thank you that we are your church, and we pray you would continue to lead and guide us in your ways. Amen.

Reflection on Luke 10:1–11 (following Andy’s sermon on Sunday)
In Luke 10:1–11, Jesus sends out seventy-two of His followers, commissioning them to prepare the way for His arrival in various towns. We see that discipleship is not passive—it’s a calling to active participation in the work of the Kingdom.
Jesus sends them out two by two, ensuring support and witness go hand in hand “The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few” a message all too familiar today. It is a call to be attentive and willing to labour for the gospel in a world in desperate need of healing and truth.
Jesus instructs them to bring peace, to accept hospitality, and to offer healing. Interestingly, He also prepares them for rejection: “If they do not welcome you... shake the dust off your feet.” This is not a gesture of contempt, but a symbolic act of clarity—distinguishing between the acceptance and rejection of God’s message. The disciples are not responsible for outcomes; they are responsible for faithfulness.
We are still being sent—into workplaces, families, neighbourhoods. Do we see ourselves as bearers of peace and healing?
Like the disciples, we may face indifference or hostility when living our faith. Jesus prepares us for this—not to harden us, but to keep us faithful without becoming discouraged.
We live in a results-driven culture, but Jesus invites us to anchor our joy not in outcomes, but in our secure identity as children of God.
