Lord God of Mission,
We thank you that you have brought us to know Jesus Christ and so to be part of his New Testament people. Your word calls us to be and to make disciples of Jesus and so we ask that you'd fill us with your Holy Spirit that we might share Christ gladly with others. Give us opportunities in our daily lives to speak for him with those we engage and interact with, speaking warmly, winsomely, boldly in a way that models his life and character. We pray that as we do so, and through the work of your Spirit and prayer, would you draw more people here to Hazelwell Church, giving us the privilege of discipling them, and may they too, in time, come to know Jesus and so become disciples – his followers – too.
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

Reflection on Luke 19:31-10
“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (v.10)
Zacchaeus was a man known by his reputation — a chief tax collector, wealthy, and despised. He was seen by others as corrupt, greedy, and beyond redemption. Yet Jesus saw something different.
When Zacchaeus climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus, he wasn’t just being curious — he was showing a heart that longed for more. He didn’t know it yet, but Jesus was already seeking him. And when Jesus reached that spot under the tree, He didn’t pass Zacchaeus by. He looked up. He called him by name. He invited Himself into Zacchaeus’s life. He chose to share a meal with him
This encounter is a stunning picture of grace. Zacchaeus didn’t earn Jesus’ attention by his good works. In fact, his past would have disqualified him in the eyes of the crowd. But not in the eyes of Jesus. In just a moment, Jesus changed his identity — from a “sinner” to a “son of Abraham.”
The presence of Jesus didn’t just offer Zacchaeus forgiveness; it transformed him. He went from taking advantage of others to giving generously. Real salvation touches the heart and overflows into action.
We are all, at times, like Zacchaeus — hiding in our own trees of shame, guilt, or pride, hoping no one sees, yet longing for someone to care. Jesus doesn’t wait for us to clean ourselves up. He comes looking. He sees us. He calls us by name.
