A Prayer for the week from Matt

Heavenly Father, from whom every family in heaven and earth derives its name, we pray for families with children who have recently broken up from school, for your energy and hope through the holidays. Thinking especially of those who are hard-up, reliant on 3 school meals during term time, but all who may find the coming 6 weeks long, we pray for perseverance, for encouragement. Would you bring unity in the families, and patience and understanding, and we pray that there may be glad and joyful experiences shared through these coming weeks, that families may look back on in future years with thankfulness. Amen.

Parish Update

There will be NO midweek discipleship course next Tuesday July 29th

Reflection on Luke 11:1–13 (Jesus Teaches About Prayer)

We learn from this passage that prayer is not about getting what we want—it’s about becoming who we are meant to be in relationship with God. It calls us to trust, be persistent and a deeper openness to the presence and work of the Holy Spirit.

The request from the disciples “Lord, teach us to pray..." is deeply human—they saw Jesus praying and wanted to achieve the same closeness with God. Jesus responds by giving them a simple, yet comprehensive and powerful prayer Which Christians through out the world still pray today.

“Our Father” sets the tone, addressing God not as a distant figure of authority but of our loving Father.

We are then exhorted to worship and revere God.

The phrase “Your kingdom come" – speaks of a longing for God’s reign to take over our lives and the world.

We are then reminded to acknowledge our daily dependence on God for our physical and spiritual needs.

We ask forgiveness for ourselves in equal measure to our forgiveness of others– essential to our relationship with God and others.

Finally a prayer for deliverance – A plea for protection from temptation and evil.

Hence prayer is not about impressing God with words, but about relationship, trust, and aligning ourselves with His will.

Final Thought-

  • Do we approach prayer as a duty or as a dialogue with a loving Father?
  • Are we persistent in prayer, or do we give up quickly?
  • What are we truly seeking when we pray—God’s will, or our own desires?
  • Do we believe that God hears and responds, even if not in the way we expect?
