A Prayer for the week from Matt

Lord God of mission, we pray for Hazewell Church that we would be bearers of the good news of Jesus. Would you give us opportunities this week, as we go about life, to share who Jesus is with others. As we hold out his offer of salvation may the gift be gladly received, as we speak his words of life may those seeds fall on fertile soil. Please would we be vessels of the good news and would you use us fully to draw people to yourself.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection on Hebrews 11:29 – 12:2

Faith Is Trusting Even When We Don’t See the Outcome We are reminded in Hebrews 11:29–40 that faith isn't just about victory—it’s about trust. Some saw miraculous deliverance (like the Red Sea crossing), but others endured suffering, rejection, or even death, without receiving the promises. Yet, they are all commended for their faith.

Life can feel like a race—exhausting, uncertain, sometimes lonely but we are called to “lay aside every weight and sin that slows us down. That might mean releasing distractions, bitterness, fear, or our comfort zones. We’re not called to run fast, but to run “faithfully and with endurance”.

Fix Your Eyes on Jesus - The ultimate example of enduring faith is Jesus (12:2). He endured the cross, shame, and suffering—not because it was easy, but because of the joy set before Him. When we’re tired or discouraged, we’re told not to look at our troubles, but to look to Jesus—who both begins and completes our faith.

He’s not just the goal at the end of the race. He’s with us every step of the way
